With all the health benefits that CBD oil provides, the entire world is wondering about CBD and the Coronavirus. Studies have shown that CBD may help reduce chronic pain by impacting endocannabinoid receptor activity, reducing inflammation and interacting with neurotransmitters. Research indicates that cannabinoids, including CBD, could potentially be a very effective inflammatory agent and may even help certain types of cancers. So why not a virus?

Oh wait, before I forget…. “This statement, my comments, or any part of my blog has not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.” Now that I have that out of the way let’s get back to the topic at hand.

Inflammation and Viruses

All viruses, whether it is HPV, HSV, HIV, COVID-19 (coronavirus), etc cause the body to have an inflammatory response. When your body is exposed to a virus infection, cytokines are produced when the immune defenses are activated. What are Cytokines? Cytokines are the signaling proteins synthesized and secreted by immune cells upon stimulation. They are the triggers or switches that balance inflammation. Your body is sending cytokines to the site of infection and initiates new responses with damaging consequences that includes inflammation. This increase of inflammation causes us to be sick. The virus is actually tricking the body to attack itself.

CBD and Cytokine

Cannabinoids are potent anti-inflammatory and one of the effects is the suppression of cytokine production and the induction of T-regulatory cells.

We know that our bodies endocannabinoid system contains 2 cannabinoid receptors… CB1 and CB2. Cannabinoid receptors include CB1, which is predominantly expressed in the brain, and CB2, which is primarily found on the cells of the immune system. The fact that both CB1 and CB2 receptors have been found on immune cells suggests that cannabinoids play an important role in the regulation of the immune system.

One of the possible mechanisms of immune control by cannabinoids during inflammation is the dysregulation of cytokine production by immune cells and disruption of the well-regulated immune response to those cells. Cannabinoids may affect immune responses and host resistance by disrupting the balance between the cytokines produced by T-helper subsets.

So if a virus causes your body to trigger cytokines which causes sickness, and CBD disrupts the balance of cytokines, wouldn’t it make sense that CBD can actually reduce the sickness associated with virus?

How To Take CBD Oil

Depending on the condition you suffer from, the effects of CBD oil can be felt within a few hours  or take up to 4 to 6 weeks. CBD is most effective when used daily as a nutritional supplement. Any CBD that your body does not use is then stored in your fat cells for later consumption. As a dietary supplement, place 20 drops under the tongue, hold for 60 seconds, then swallow. Do this twice a day.

We’ve all heard the saying “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. A little precaution before a crisis occurs is preferable to a lot of fixing up afterward. Taking CBD daily will help your body to continuously repair any damaged cells and then will store any excess CBD in your fat cells. Chances are when a virus, or other germ is introduced to your body, your body will be prepared to plan their attack.

Plan your own attack and have CBD in your system especially before the winter months when we are exposed to many different viruses and germs.

The media says we are 18 months away from releasing a vaccine against the Coronavirus. In the meantime we are asked to demonstrate “social distancing” in an effort to slow down the spread of the Coronavirus. Now that we know what our body does when it is introduced to a virus, and we know what CBD does once it reaches the cells, it only makes sense to prepare our bodies the best and most natural way we know how. CBD has anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties and it also acts as an effective treatment for nervousness, nausea and vomiting. Whether it is the flu, coronavirus, or just a nasty stomach bug, I’m going to be grabbing my bottle of CBD Oil, take my daily dose and have peace of mind knowing I’m doing all I can to stay healthy while we wait for the rest of the world to develop a safe vaccine to handle this bug.

  2. Hi Jamie,
Thank you for this valuable info on the benefits of CBD oil. I learned something new again today.
My Dad suffers from acute bronchitis and asthma but he lives in Indonesia. In Indonesia cannabis is classified as illegal drugs. So, I can’t ship it to him. 🙁 I really wish I could because he is in the hospital right now.
But at least I can get it for myself and my family here in Arizona.
    Once again, thank you.
    Stay healthy and safe!

  5. I am huge fan of CBD oil. But the only problem with the commercial CBD oils are that they contain only a small percentage of the actual oil most of the time. Do you think we need a purer form or a small percentage is good enough?

    Thank you

    1. Hello Habib, thanks for the comment. Once you know what to look for you will find there are some CBD Oils that are 100% hemp derived. For example, HempWorx is 100% hemp. It contains the CBD and 100% Hemp oil. Some CBD oils do use other oils as the carrier. Explore my other articles and learn about the various products out there and how to find those made with 100% hemp.
