CBD Oil has shown health improvements in so many areas. What about symptoms related to ADHD? Can CBD Oil help with these symptoms? Let’s find out.

What is ADHD?

Let’s break this down and get a full understanding of the symptoms of ADHD. ADHD is a common neurodevelopmental disorder in children. This condition may start in childhood but often lasts well into adulthood.

Symptoms of ADHD

A child with ADHD might:

  • daydream a lot
  • forget or lose things a lot
  • squirm or fidget
  • talk too much
  • make careless mistakes or take unnecessary risks
  • have a hard time resisting temptation
  • have trouble taking turns
  • have difficulty getting along with others

Let’s face it. Children are children so how can you tell when there may be a problem? The beauty of being a child is having a great imagination, get lost in daydream, forget where you hid your favorite toy, and other things that we chalk up to being a kid. Let’s face it, children have trouble paying attention when you are asking them to focus while their favorite TV Show is on or you can’t get your kid to shut up. How do we know when these traits are above and beyond the norm and when to intervene and try to help the child?

A sure sign your child has ADHD if they have trouble controlling impulsive behaviors and they act without thinking. They may impulsively act on an idea even if it is the wrong thing to do or if they will get in trouble or not. These children are almost always overly active. Children with ADHD do not grow out of these behaviors. The symptoms continue and can become severe. These behaviors cause difficulty at home, school, or with friends.

CBD to the Rescue!

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS), an extension of our Central Nervous System, is composed of receptors, neurotransmitters and enzymes. The ECS receptors in the brain are involved in a variety of physiological processes including appetite, pain-sensation, mood and memory, synaptic plasticity, and motor learning. The ECS interacts with Cannabinoids found in the Cannabis plant and Endocannabinoid that are produced by our own bodies.

CBD and other Cannabinoids bind to the ECS receptors leading to a positive impact on health and overall well-being. These receptors are known as CB1 (located mostly in the brain) and CB2 (located throughout the body and the immune system). CBD interacts with these CB1 and CB2 receptors and produces therapeutic effects. Of the main benefits of CBD, some of the most attractive benefits is its ability to reduce hyperactivity and other behavioral symptoms. These are some of the most common traits of ADHD!

It’s amazing to see all the people that have been able to finally get relief with different dosages and formulas of CBD. It’s awesome that this remedy can be so versatile in a medicine cabinet and potentially help people suffering from ADHD. Thanks so much for sharing!

  2. Hi there

Excellent article; I really loved the reading.

My daughter has suffered from ADHD since her childhood. Today she’s treated with medicals, which I don’t like at all.
I am looking for a natural alternative, and I thought about CBD oil. I’ve heard many good things about it, and now that I read your article, I’m even more convinced about taking CBD oil.
I do have some questions, though: What would be the ideal quantity for a 16 years old child?
And what works best? Gummies or oil?

    Thanks a lot!

    1. Hi, thanks for the comment!  I think Oil is the most concentrated but the gummies are great to have in a back pack, purse, take as a treat or just to take on the go.  Just remember that the CBD in both is equally effective.  Dosage depends on the person.  With the Oil you can count the drops and increase the drops until you see the desired effect.  If you would like to try a free sample let me know.  I choose 5 people each month and send samples to try!  I’m that confident of the product.

Thanks again for the great comments.  Let’s keep in touch!

  4. Hi Jamie,

I never thought of CBD for ADHD, but that makes sense. It’s a calming agent, and most people that are ADHD have a hard time being calm in general. I never would have thought of that honestly; I always think of CBD for pain and such.

Knowing that CBD doesn’t contain THC, I think it would be a good use for this, even for kids. I’m not sure I would give young kids this, but maybe after 14? What are your thoughts for the age?

    1. Hi Katrina, as far as what’s too young I’ve not heard anything regarding small children and negative effects from CBD. I’ve actually heard the opposite. My cousin who is a Registered Nurse gave it to her child as a toddler. She said it helped with the ‘terrible two’s’, with teething pain, and if her child missed a nap would help be less cranky. Our Full Spectrum contains a trace of THC but our Broad Spectrum and Gummies contain absolutely zero THC.
Thanks for the great comment and I hope I answered your question.

      Stay Healthy!

  5. wow
I have to same its the second time reading your blog and I am so fascinated about how effective this CBD oil can offer not just adults but also children with many conditions.

I think since I only look at natural products/remedies for my body I think I will use such for my whole family since children can also benefit here.

    1. Hi, thank you for the great comments. I’m with you, I prefer natural remedies also. That’s how I became so passionate about CBD. From pain to behavioral symptoms CBD is almost a one stop shop. Read my post on Gummies, they are a favorite with kids (and most adults!).
      Stay Healthy!

  6. Wow. I had no idea that CBD oil could be use to treat ADHD. I know that some children are given medication for this condition but it can stop them from being theirself which no parent wants.

You still want kids to be theirselves, just perhaps less extreme versions which it sounds like the CBD oil could potentially achieve. If it worked it would be life-changing so has got to be worth a try.

    1. Hi Jean, thanks for the comment. And Yes, some people see improvement in many of the symptoms associated with ADHD. I think you are spot on. Less extreme versions of a child can be life changing.

      Thanks again and Stay Healthy!

  7. I work with children that falls in the SEMH category and many of them are diagnosed with ADHD and some parents are against the recommendation of their children using drugs like Ritalin. Is CBD an alternative option that is recognised by the medical profession or is CBD more one of those natural remedies you rather just keep quiet about, give it to your child, and let the teachers see for themselves the positive effects on behaviour?

Are there actual medical publications (real studies and research published) that acknowledges CBD as a recognised alternative solution to Ritalin?

    1. Hi, thanks for the comment. I will say here in the United States that Natural Remedies are not recommended by doctors. So you are right when you say be quite and let others see the positive results. There are studies performed at some universities that show promising results. A google search pulls up several studies and the results.
Let me know if you have any other questions. Stay Healthy!

  8. Dear Jamie,
thanks for this so helpful text that improves the health of our children. First time I hear about this disorder and great that there is a cure! I was interested in the composition of CBD oil, which is full of fruits and vegetables that are necessary for the normal development of the child’s nervous system, and there is hemp as a base. It helps maintain stable mental and psychological health, calms the nerves and works against insomnia. One of the strongest medicinal plants!
Thank you for spreading this so useful text and helping children around the world to have a happy childhood.

    1. Here in the United States we can’t say it is a cure…but it can address the symptoms associated with the disorder. I find it comforting to know that know drugs are involved and it is a natural product.

Thanks for the comment and Stay Healthy!
      Jamie L.
